About

Folk Music Journal features papers devoted to folk music, folk dance, and folk song, which in practice are interpreted in their broadest sense. Essentially, the Journal is concerned with 'lived' as opposed to 'processed' popular culture, with the focus on the British Isles and the English-speaking world. Its aim is to be both scholarly and accessible, and the journal prides itself on working with authors who do not come from a traditional academic background. Although the main focus is on Britain and Ireland, no strict geographical limit is imposed. Folk Music Journal is the continuation of the Journal of the English Folk Dance and Song Society, which was itself the continuation of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, first published in 1899, and the Journal of the English Folk Dance Society.
