Objective: To review new imaging technology potentially useful in the clinical practice of laryngology. Narrow band imaging, iScan (Pentax Medical Company, Montvale, NJ), optical computed tomography, and confocal microscopy have potential value for enhancing diagnosis of laryngeal pathology. A review of 50 articles suggests that new imaging technologies may enhance clinical diagnostic capabilities. The probable value of new imaging technologies suggests that further research is needed to refine these technologies and define their clinical efficacy.
