Lyric Opera of Chicago continued its multi-season exploration of the Rodgers and Hammerstein canon with a visually stunning mounting of "The King and I" (seen Apr. 30), borrowed from Théâtre du Châtelet, that proved vastly entertaining, if dramatically uneven. Major praise is due to sound designer Mark Grey; electronic enhancement has presented a daunting challenge in this theater, but Grey nailed it this time around with a virtually reverbfree acoustic that flattered song and speech alike.
