In particular, the "Barbiere di Siviglia" presented here, from Schwetzingen in 1988, is a total time capsule--and not just for the hairstyles of the men in the orchestra pit. Not only are there no track listings on the DVD menu or in the booklets--there are no booklets at all! (The original release of "Il Turco" had an essay on the elusive tinta of the piece, a shorter essay on the production, and sixty-seven tracks you could skip through.) The Blu-ray technology is really not an improvement, especially since "Barbiere is" in the old 4:3 aspect ratio and was overlit for television.
