The modern-day studio can serve as a tool, an instrument, and a tonic for whatever ails recorded sound(s), but it also serves as a crutch and an enabler; what the microphones hear is rarely what anybody gets on a finished album anymore, and most musicians have become accustomed to having time for overdubs and studio-aided tidying.
