The article is a critical review of a performance [sic] The Heavenly Beauty of National Music given by an all-female ensemble on Chinese instruments, held at [sic] State Opera Prague approximately a month before the Olympic Games in Beijing. It identifies 'kitsch' as the principal technique of contemporary Chinese state propaganda and cultural diplomacy. It analyses [sic] how the performance manipulates gender, enthic, cultural and historical stereotypes to construct national identity and its international PR image.
