Megadeth bass magus Dave Ellefson's new signature axe is a 34"-scale 5-string that has a basswood blue-burst body with a black center stripe, black binding, a black plastic nut, a maple fretboard with block inlays, and 21 jumbo frets. The [Kelly Bird V]'s EMG HZ40 pickups are matched, with separate volume controls and a 3-band active EQ. Hardware includes a Jackson high-mass HM-5 bridge and Jackson die-cast mini tuners. Big Ear's new bass-centric octave fuzz pedal lets you control fuzz intensity, volume, and tone while stepping on or off the octave footswitch. In addition to hand-matched NOS transistors for a warmer and more organic tone, [Chaka Octave Fuzz]'s fuzz side boasts aggressive-but not overly compressed.
